Prayer in Spiritual Direction

Prayer: Before, During & After Spiritual Direction

Explore how prayer shapes the ministry of listening, discernment, and accompaniment.

Join us for a half-day workshop led by Pilar Gateman exploring the place of prayer before, during, and after spiritual direction. Together, we will reflect on how prayer forms the context for spiritual direction and supports the director’s posture of attentiveness, discernment, and care.

Prayer stands at the heart of spiritual direction as both context and practice. This workshop will offer theological and scriptural foundations for prayer, while also inviting practical reflection on lived experience in the direction relationship.

Participants will engage different understandings and expressions of prayer, including silence and solitude, and consider how prayer supports discernment before, during, and after spiritual direction sessions. Attention will also be given to practices, resources, and approaches that sustain a deepening life of prayer for both director and directee.
