This course introduces students to 4 major streams of spirituality and practice of spiritual companionship, which have historical, as well as, current significance in the field of spiritual direction. Students will consider both readings and teaching on each of these movements/methodologies and reflect upon the resonance to their own practice, as well as, the areas which draw them further into a particular area or methodology presented. Methodologies include Evangelical Spirituality and Spiritual Direction, Franciscan Spirituality and Spiritual Direction, Thomas Merton Spirituality and Spiritual Direction, and Ignatian Spirituality and Spiritual Direction.
This course utilizes selected readings, lectures, class discussions, guided experiences, and sharing.
