It is good to enter into the time of meditative prayer with a spirit of quiet and relaxation. Let the mystery of God be near you, and let yourself be open to God’s gift of the Spirit.
GUIDE
Presence: Take 2 deep breaths. Lord Jesus, as you were exiled, you understand my own exile. Thank you Jesus, that I am never alone.
Preparatory Prayer
“Dear Jesus, I have come to spend time with you; help me to desire more of you and enable me to grow in love for you, through the reading of your Word.”
Matthew 2:13-14, read once quietly and once out loud.
As you read, allow God to use your imagination, entering the story of the Exile. Allow yourself to encounter the angel of the Lord, Joseph, Jesus…
When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. “Get up,” he said, “take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him.”
So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: “Out of Egypt I called my son.”
Many times in our lives, we find ourselves in exile—in many ways. How has Jesus entered your exile? Make this part of your prayer today, waiting for the gift of his response.
Journal your prayer and experience of this time.
