    As you begin your scripture reading, consider last week’s scriptures and return to any that are staying with you. Or, once again take time to read and consider the scripture below.

    Luke 15:11-25 We are always received back by God, no matter how big our mistake—our sin.

    Guide

    Presence of God: “Jesus, I answer your call to “come away” this morning/evening/afternoon.” In silence, take a few cleansing breaths, openning up to God’s prescence.

    Read Luke 15:11-32 silently and aloud.

    Gospel Contemplation
    Imagine the scene—the son who demands his inheritance, thus implicitely wishing his father dead. The son then throws it away on foolish things. Destitute, he returns to his father in humiliation, asking for a lowly job to survive. Astonishingly, his father receives him back joyfully.

    What do you see, smell, hear, feel? Who are you in the story? What was your experience of the story? Is this your story?

    The Individual Retreat is a process over a period of days where you interact with scripture, learn ways of praying, and develop that kind of personal connection with God. So it’s a process of developing our soul-connection—spirit-connection—with God, so that we are seeing God’s work in daily life, and that we are creating space for God in the crush of the normal things that happen in our daily lives. So that is one of the formation processes that an organization like Emmaus can facilitate or help with in churches—is to run retreats like that, that help people get into that mindset.
