It is good to enter into the time of meditative prayer with a spirit of quiet and relaxation. Let the mystery of God be near you, and let yourself be open to God’s gift of the Spirit.

John 10:1-18 As a shepherd, Jesus, you know me and even know my name.
Guide
Presence: Take two deep cleansing breaths, remembering that God is the giver of life. “Here I am God. Thank you for your presence.”
Read John 10:1-18 two times: once quietly and once out loud.
In various parts of the world, the shepherd and flock can look very different. Australian shepherds herd hundreds, if not thousands of sheep on horseback. In the middle east, the image is starkly different—a shepherd on foot, with a small flock of sheep. A much more intimate image emerges. The shepherd stayed with the sheep all day long—living with them. The shepherd took them to safety during the night hours, safe from preying animals. The shepherd knew each sheep by name, and noticed when one was missing.
Jesus is the good shepherd. He desires to live with you, to feed you, and to protect you. He desires to be your constant companion.
Perhaps you are the lost sheep. Perhaps you are the wounded sheep. Perhaps you are just a lamb. Offer yourself to the Shepherd, resting safely in the Shepherd’s arms.
