Welcome to Week 3 Day 2
As we begin a new week of prayer, it is good to remember to enter into the time of meditative prayer with a spirit of quiet and relaxation. Let the mystery of God be near you, and let yourself be open to God’s gift of the Spirit.
OT Isaiah 42:1-4 Lord, Servant, Teacher
NT John 13:4-5, 12-17 Jesus washes the disciples’ feet
Presence: Take two deep cleansing breaths, remembering that God is the giver of life. “Here I am God. Thank you for your presence.”
Read John 13:4-5 and 12-17, once quietly and once aloud.
Gospel Contemplation: Enter into the story, hearing the conversation between Jesus and his disciples. Imagine yourself as one of the disciples, listening to Jesus, as he washes your feet. How does it feel? What does this action of Jesus, mean to you? After reading, stay with Jesus—engage with Jesus—and allow the story to unfold for you.
Read John 13:4-5 and 12-17
So he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.
After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.
When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” he asked them. “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14 Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16 Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
Journal your prayer and experience of this time.
